Stephenie Meyer is the author of the bestselling series for young adults “Twilight”. This week she stated that the fifth and final book in the series will be put on hold after a partial draft of the book was posted and distributed all over the internet without her consent. The author said that she is sure who is responsible for the distribution as there were only a few copies of the manuscript and each of them was unique.

“The manuscript that was illegally distributed on the Internet was given to trusted individuals for a good purpose. I have no comment beyond that, as I believe that there was no malicious intent with the initial distribution,” she wrote in a posting on her website.

Meyer believes that this was a violation of her personal rights as well as those of an author because she is the only one who owns the copyrights to her books. “This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control,” Meyer wrote.

“I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on ‘Midnight Sun,’ and so it is on hold indefinitely.” Meyer said that the draft that was released was incomplete and messy. However, she will be allowing her fans to read it and has made it available on her website because added new depth to the “Twilight” series.
